Alexey Melnikov <mel@messagingdirect.com> wrote DIGEST-MD5 plugin together with Tim Martin and Lawrence Greenfield.

 The CRAM-MD5, SCRAM-MD5, and PLAIN mechanisms use a gdbm file on the
server side to check the passwords. The utility makedbm.c has been
included for creating a dbm file.
